The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA)
at 1400 N. 30th in Quincy, IL. 62301, advances the cause of women
and girls by adapting action programs and services to meet individual
needs. They provide a supportive housing program for homeless persons.
They also offer a variety of fitness classes for all ages and levels
of fitness with class schedules designed to fit a busy person’s

- Physical Therapy -
Within the city of Quincy there are several Physical
Therapists ranging from chiropractic help to sports therapy.
Blessing Hospital also provides therapy after an injury, surgery,
or illness for a required period of time and will sometimes send
a therapist to a patient’s home if necessary.
To aid the individual after surgery or an accident, there are

- Rehabilitation -
Whether help is needed for a physical problem or a mental problem,
rehabilitation services in the Quincy area are available at several
local facilities.

rehabilitation.
Resources for Rehabilitiation
provides a long list of publications pertinent to mental health,
making wise medical decisions, disabilities, chronic conditions,
elders with disabilities, low vision or sight loss.
Special rehabilitation services and facilities are available through

Safety Driving Course; Adams County Council for Senior Citizens,

Rehabilitation Center (CRC Industries); and Transitions
of Western Illinois, 223-0413. Occasionally Loatsch Studio and
Fitness Complex at 48th and State, 224-5104, has classes for rehabilitation.
- Mental Health Services -
Quincy’s mental
health services include services for people of all ages afflicted
with Alzheimers or severe mental illnesses as well as behavioral
health, suicide prevention, seniors and their caregivers, life skills
training, and vocational training.
- Addictions - Prevention and Care -
Addicts Victorious has been helping people overcome
their everyday problems, fears, and addictive behaviors since
1987. This is done through the use of support group meetings, a
5-day Biblical
counseling program, and individual counseling.
Gambler's Anonymous is
a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength
and hope with each other that they may solve their common
problem

Narcotics Anonymous has information
and pamphlets online for the various phases of addiction and recovery.
It is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs have
become a major problem. Membership is open to any drug addict, regardless

- Services for Disadvantaged -
Transitions of Western Illinois (formerly
Adams County Mental Health Center) provides services for all. They
accept Medicare and Medicaid for their services as well as an ability-to-pay
plan based on income. There are also several agencies that help
disabled persons.
- Public Health Services -
The Adams
County Health Department provides many public services for the
community. Those services include disease and injury prevention,
health protection and health promotion, environmental health, and
women and child health. Their offices are located at 333 N 6th Street
in Quincy. Their telephone number is (217) 222-8440.
- Sanitation -
The Adams County Health Department’s Health Protection Division
assures that Quincy has safe drinking water and regulates the proper
disposal of wastewater. Also a sanitary landfill is maintained by
BFI Backridge Landfill on Route B in LaGrange, MO.
In 2004 the Office
of Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention (OCEPP), conducted
an inspection at the City of Quincy Water Department Filtration
Facility which treats water received from the Mississippi River
to be used as drinking water. The results were acceptable.
