Elder Housing

- Retirement Residential Facilities -

Curtis Creek is an apartment facility completed in 2005. This facility provides studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with a kitchenette that includes cabinets, counter space, sink, and full refrigerator. Services such as laundry, cleaning, transportation, and three meals per day are provided and included in the monthly rent. The facility includes an exercise room, game room, TV room, library, and a chapel. They are located at 823 South 36th Street in Quincy and the phone number is 221-9081.

Northland Apartments, located at 10th and Locust Streets, has one- and two-bedroom apartments, all on one floor at ground level. The water is furnished and there are no age or income restrictions. Contact 222-1962.

Ridgebrook Apartments has unfurnished apartments that are not handicap accessible. The facility has stairs and no income or age restrictions. They are located at 1601 S. 24th, 223-5544.

Sunset Villa, 418 Washington, 223-2636 ext 310, offers independent living with 4 apartments in each unit, some upstairs, each with a garage and storage unit. The rent is over $1,000 per month with everything except electricity and phone included.

Trace Apartments are located at 3100 State Street. There is no minimum age requirement. The apartments have some steps. Contact them at 222-6080.

- Housing Authorities -

Quincy Housing Authority can provide information on availability and rates. They also provide subsidized housing for all persons throughout Quincy at Lampe Hi Rise at 6th and Broadway, Indian Hills and Frederick Ball. You may apply at the 540 Harrison Street office or call 222-0720.

Adams County Housing Authority has 45 HUD subsidized units for seniors that have safety features such as hand rails, grab bars and life safety devices. They are located in Clayton and Camp Point with several that are handicap accessible. Transportation is available by appointment and laundry facilities are available. Contact information: 102 N. Brown County Housing Authority provides 77 apartments for seniors in a low-rise facility at 400 Maple Street, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353. They are equipped with grab bars and there are three handicap accessible apartments. There are income restrictions that apply and laundry facilities are available.

Hancock County Housing Authority at West 3rd and Spruce in Dallas City, IL 62330, has low-rise facilities for seniors in Dallas City, Hamilton, La Harpe, Nauvoo, Augusta and Bowen. The apartments are equipped with grab bars. Call them at (217) 852-3482.

Pike County Housing Authority has low-rise senior housing facilities located in Barry, Pittsfield and Perry, IL. The apartments are equipped with grab bars; some have life safety devices. - Subsidized Housing for the Elderly -

Apartments and Subsidized Housing
With the growth of the elderly population in Quincy and the surrounding area, new construction of apartments specifically for the elderly is continuing. Currently these facilities are available for seniors:

The 12th Street Apartments at 2925 N. 12th Street, has one- two- and three-bedroom apartments with two handicap accessible units available. There are income limit guidelines. Contact them at 222-4697.

Good Shepard Apartments at 301 North 8th Street, 224-9783, are privately owned for people aged 55 or older. The rents begin at $600 per month and up which covers all utilities except cable TV and telephone. The building has elevators, free laundry facilities, activity programs for the residents, and is a meal site for meals-on-wheels.

Lampe High Rise Apartments located at 527 Broadway in Quincy, provides housing based on income and medical expenses for those 62 or older through the Quincy Housing Authority at 540 Harrison, 222-0720. They have 104 subsidized apartments for seniors who can care for themselves that are equipped with hand rails, grab bars, life safety devices, and a security guard. The facility has a central dining room, lounge and activity room. Their offices are open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Lincoln Douglas Apartments has 61 HUD Section 8 rent subsidized apartments in a high-rise facility with an elevator. Ten of the apartments are handicap accessible and all apartments have hand rails and grab bars. The building is equipped with security devices that allow visitors to be buzzed in. Restrictions include a minimum age of 62 and income. They are located at 101 N. 4th, 224-3355.

Harvest Hills Retirement Center, 901 South 36th, 222-3333, offers one-bedroom, 540-square-foot apartments with rent charged at 30% of the adjusted gross income of the individual. Rent includes heat and water. Residents must be 62 years of age or older and independent of nursing care with a maximum income of $16,350 for a single and $18.700 for a couple. There are elevators, coin-operated laundry facilities, beauty shop and community room. The apartments are serviced by the city bus transportation. Office hours are 8-12 on Monday through Friday.

Cardinal Apartments has eight subsidized apartments for seniors age 62 and older with a pool, library, lounge and activity room. All units are handicap accessible and have grab bars. Restrictions include no pets, renter must be able to care for themselves, and there are income restrictions. You may contact them at 135 Stadium Dr., 224-3355.

Carson Building Apartments at 500 Maine, has one- and two-bedroom apartments with furnished kitchens, elevator, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, and off-street parking. Some apartments are handicap accessible and security includes an intercom at the entrance. The rents are affordable and there are income restrictions. Contact 224-8630.

Cedar Creek Crossing has two and three bedroom apartments with central air and some handicap accessible units. A laundry, pool, exercise and computer rooms are also available. There are income restrictions and they will accept Section 8 rental vouchers. Contact them at 2225 N. 12th, 224-4418.

Country Club Heights is located at 740 Country Club Heights (off State Street) in Quincy and has 80 apartments equipped with grab bars available for rent subsidy assistance for seniors or persons who are disabled. Their facility has a pool/ whirlpool, library, lounge and activity room. . The minimum age requirement is 62, and other restrictions include no pets, self care and income restrictions. Contact

Ursa Senior Housing provides eight one-level apartments for seniors. The rooms feature grab bars for safety. To be eligible, one must meet the minimum age and income restrictions. Contact (573) 288-5586.

Federal funding administered by HUD is available for public housing. HUD sets the lower income limits at 80% and very low income limits at 50% of the median income for the county in which you choose to live. These limits will vary depending on the area. For those with disabilities, the Central Illinois Center for Independent Living provides resources for those who wish to live independently.

Centers are available in various locations in Illinois. They all offer different services, some of which are information and referral, advocacy, training for independent living skills, and other services such as education, repair, activities, and modifications of the home for special needs. Assisted Living Facilities
Bickford Cottage is a new assisted living facility completed in 2005 for occupancy. It is staffed with certified and licensed caregivers and provides a flexible care program that is individualized for each resident. Units include studio or two-room apartments that feature a 24-hour emergency response system, handicap-accessible bathrooms, refrigerator, microwave and sink, walk-in shower, individual temperature control, and voice-to-voice staff communication. The cottages are located at 4221 Maine, 228-0800.

Casita Catherine Assisted Living at 1510 N. 10th, has ten rooms available with services such as meals, laundry, medicine, monitoring and private rooms. Call 224-4850.

Catherine Kaspar Village at 1408 N. 10th, provides two-bedroom, two-bathroom units, independent living, and handicap accessible units with nursing call device and a security system.

Good Samaritan Home of Quincy provides several levels of living and care facilities. Cottages with one or two bedrooms and garage are available for those who are still active. Fire alarms, emergency devices and grab bars are available in the cottages. Some are rentals and others are prepay and there are no income restrictions. Maintenance on the cottage is provided and residents can participate in all of the activities of the home. They also have top priority for the residential and nursing care facility if the need arises. The cottages are located at 2130 Harrison and some at Cherry Lane Estates. Shelter care provides private or semi-private rooms with light housekeeping provided with Nursing staff available at all times. Nursing Care includes three levels: Intermediate, Skilled, or Medicare Skilled. Special Care provides care for those with Alzheimers Disease or other dementia.

Sunset Home is Medicare and Medicaid certified. Sunset Villa is apartment-style living for those who prefer privacy and can take care of their own physical needs but still desire the convenience of maintenance-free living. Sheltered care provides nursing assistance along in your own living space. Light Intermediate Care is for those who require medical attention but still enjoy a degree of independence. Special Care is for those patients who suffer from Alzheimers Disease or other dementia. There is also Intermediate Care, Skilled Care, and Hospice Care available.

Nursing Homes
The selection of a nursing home requires some investigation into each individual home to learn about the accommodations for the individual including the room, meals, staff, cleanliness, and security. There is new technology being used in some homes that allow the staff to know at all times where the patient is and their condition.
