Service Clubs of Quincy perform various kinds of charitable service to the less fortunate people in the community.

Altrusa International Club of Quincy, promotes reading to young children, collecting coats for the annual coat giveaway at the Salvation Army, the Dress an Angel program at the Salvation Army, and Toy Town at the Salvation Army among other projects. Breakfast Optimist Club of Quincy, contributes and supports youth organizations, contributes to the various Scouting programs, provides two annual scholarships, as well as other fund raising events. Their mailing address is PO Box 582, Quincy, or call 224-0864.

Child Family Mentor Program, supports the one-on-one mentoring program for school children. The office is located at 1444 Maine, Quincy, and their phone is 223-8700 ext 256.

Circle K Club, of Quincy University hosts a walk-a-thon and fall food drive, works with children of Chaddock, assists with Habitat for Humanity, and assists with various other projects. Their phone number is 222-8020.

Downtown Rotary Club of Quincy, supports unique local and international projects that will accomplish a special purpose. They sponsor a Christmas Citrus Sale and Jazz Festival that provide funds for charitable organizations. Their address is 200 N. 8th, Rm. 106, Quincy, and telephone is 224-3939.

Gem City Kiwanis Club, supports a weekly reading program at the Early Childhood Education Center, delivers Meals on Wheels, along with other various community service projects. Their phone number is 223-5037.

Great River Pilot Club, is a group of business women that do charity work, the primary purpose being to help anyone with a head injury. They have an annual Health Walk in which they donate money to nursing homes to support Alzheimer patients. This club also offers scholarships for college students who meet certain criteria. PrairieLand Share, provides food at reduced cost through a self-help distribution system. They are located in Springfield, IL, 217-529-2500.

Quincy Business Women's Club is located in Quincy. Their telephone is 223-6064.

Quincy Exchange Club, is located at 910 Hampshire, Quincy, 223-0612. They provide service in the prevention of child abuse, hearing impaired support programs, special olympics and many more areas.

Quincy High Twelve Club, supplies hospital beds and mattresses to people who need them. They are located at 2430 Broadway, Quincy, 223-3880.

Quincy Junior Women's Club supports the Children's Research Foundation, Prevent Child Abuse Illinois, Operation Smile, American Red Cross, and Project Concern. They are located at 740 S 15th, Quincy, 224-8242.

Quincy Ladies of Charity, distribute clothing, household items, furniture, etc. to needy area residents. They are located at 510 S 4th, Quincy, 222-6359.

Quincy Rotary East, provides social service activities to local area organizations and causes; raises money for scholarships for local high school seniors; and volunteers for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign. Their location is 428 S. 36th, Quincy, 224-5561.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program, (RSVP) provides a variety of opportunities for retired people age 55 or older to participate in their community through significant volunteer service. Their office is located at 1301 S 48th (John Wood College Campus), Quincy, 641-4961.

There are several fraternal organizations in Quincy and surrounding area which provide a social atmosphere and support fund raising for many purposes within the community.

YWCA at 1400 N 30th St., Quincy, IL 62301 (217) 221-9922; Fax: (217) 221-9926, provides support for women and children, and offers low-impact aerobics classes and provides a weight room.

Health Clubs – There are several health clubs in the Quincy area listed at this website. Or perhaps an athletic or social club is more to your liking. The Great River Ski Club (217) 224-ISKI, 224-4754, PO Box 815, 929 Maine, Quincy, IL 62301, is a group of people who enjoy water skiing and invites others to join in this sport. Martial Arts are also available in the Quincy area.

The Quincy Table Tennis Club, 1310 Washington, 224-5192 is for players of all skill levels. This club sponsors two to three tournaments a year. The Sheridan Swim Club, 3915 S 24th, Quincy, 224-1051, is open to members and their guests. The Quincy Saddle Club meets locally and is open to people of all ages. The goal of the Quincy Saddle Club is to encourage and promote care, ownership, and enjoyment of horses.

- Golf, Tennis, Swimming, Water Activities, etc. (Clubs) -

There is a large variety of clubs and organizations available in Quincy and surrounding areas. The local private and public Golf Courses provide either 9 or 18 holes of great greens and fairways. Many of Quincy’s public parks have free public tennis courts along with courts at private facilities. Many of the public parks also have swimming and water activities with some being free and others charging a nominal fee. If a few hours travel is within your time constraints, then a visit to one of the Midwestern water parks can provide many hours of fun and enjoyment.

Athletic Clubs include the YMCA that has many programs available as well as an indoor pool, indoor track, weight and exercise rooms, basketball and racquetball courts and classes for those who wish to learn. Several Health Clubs and Social Clubs also provide interesting and fun activities.

- Political Organizations -

Perhaps you would like to feel that you have made a difference by being active in a political organization. There are several partisan and non-partisan groups in the Quincy area.

Adams Co. Republican Central Committee, at 319 N 5th, Quincy, 222-2789, supports candidates running for office in the Republican Party. They select judges for elections and are always interested in more volunteers.

Adams Co. Democratic Women's Club, at 1010 N 8th, Quincy, 224-6596, strive to educate the membership and the public regarding issues, ideals, and activities of the Democratic Party nationally, statewide, and locally. They support candidates during elections and support community projects.

Adams Co. Women's Republican Club, at 1 Spring Lake Hills, Quincy, 222-5420, helps support local, state and national Republican candidates and assists local Republican candidates in seeking either re-election or election.

Quincy League of Women Voters, at 88 W Granview, Quincy, 222-6864, encourages participation of citizens in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League registers voters, sponsors candidates’ forums, and studies and acts on issues at the local, state and national levels. It is a non-partisan group.
