Advanced Topics in Alzheimer's Care

Train-the-Trainer Program

Speaker: Barb Richmiller, RN, BSN, Program Specialist for the Quincy office of the Alzheimer's Association.

The Alzheimer's Association has developed a new Train-the-Trainer program for staffs of nursing homes, assisted and supportive living facilities, adult day care centers, and home care agencies. This new staff training program uses games, role-playing, and group exercises to bring a dozen in-services alive for direct care staff. Participants receive a scripted manual, Power Point slides and handouts. The Train-the-Trainer program is taught in a day-and-half format, and will teach you how to effectively deliver solid and interactive content to your staff on these eight topics:

1. Person centered care
2. Reducing resistive behavior
3. Bathing
4. Intimacy and sexuality
5. Preventing falls
6. Spirituality and religion
7. Making connections through music
8. Compassionate care at the end of life
