Services
The Alzheimer's Association, Quincy Area Branch, offers
many services and programs to help improve the quality of life for
more than 3,400 individuals with dementia in our 5-county service
territory and for their caregivers and families.
Agency services include Education, Safe
Return, Care Consultations,
Information and Referral, and Support
Groups.
Care Consultation is a grouping of services to
assist the person with the disease and/or their families in planning
for and
dealing with all aspects
of the illness experience. Components of Care Consultation include:
assessment of needs, assistance with planning and problem solving,
(which may include the development of an action plan), and provision
of support. Aspects of Care Consultation may include: providing
information and making appropriate referrals, supportive listening,
and follow-up (as needed). Mechanisms of service delivery can be via
telephone, email, in-person contact.
Educational programs equip caregivers with the
knowledge and skills needed to enhance the quality of life of the
individual with dementia. Participants can include persons with AD,
family members, para-professional and professional caregivers,
service and care providers
in acute, long term and home and community-based programs, general
community, etc. Educational programs can be delivered through:
conferences and workshops for caregivers, Activity-Based Alzheimer's
Care (ABAC), in-service training for professionals, newsletters,
community presentations utilizing speakers bureau volunteers, and video
library.
Information and Referral services provide
information about AD, services provided by the chapter and community
resources as they relate to AD. Mechanisms of service delivery
include: Helpline, and can include Contact Center, newsletters,
information packets, websites, brochures, resource library.
The Safe Return Program is an identification
program that assists in the safe and timely return of individuals
with Alzheimers disease or related disorders who wander and
become lost. Safe Return provides
family support, program promotion, on-going educational
opportunities to emergency personnel, and the lay community on
wandering awareness, education and training
Support groups are regularly scheduled in-person
or virtual gatherings of family, friends or
caregivers who interact around issues relating to AD. Groups can
have social, educational and/or support components and are
facilitated by trained individuals.
