Dealing with Behaviors will be the featured
topic at the Alzheimer's Association “Third
Tuesday’s Topics” a lunch and
learn series in Pike County,
beginning at 11:45 a.m. at The Crossroads
Center, 125 West Jefferson, Pittsfield.
Program
Specialist Amy Voss will present techniques
on how to respond when dementia causes unpredictable
behaviors. “Alzheimer’s disease
can cause a person to act in different and
unpredictable ways. Some individuals become
anxious or aggressive. Others repeat certain
questions or gestures and many individuals
misinterpret what they hear,” said
Voss. “These types of reactions can
lead to misunderstanding, frustration and
tension, particularly between the person
with dementia and the caregiver. It is important
to understand that the person is not acting
that way intentionally.” The
program is open to the public and a free
lunch is included. Registrations are required
by calling the Quincy Area Branch Alzheimer's
Association at 228-1111. www.alz.org/illinoiscentral.
