Weldon Springs State Recreation Area covers 550 acres in rural Dewitt County. The land for this recreation area was donated by the family of the late Judge Lawrence Weldon and the state park was established in 1948. The park’s 29-acre lake provides anglers with an ample supply of bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. Recreational activities at Weldon Springs include boating, camping, hiking, horseshoes, picnicking, and wildlife observation. There are two outdoor amphitheaters guests may use for weddings, events, plays, and movies.
Unique to Weldon Springs is Union School. A restored schoolhouse, Union School serves as a visitor center at Weldon Springs. The school building was constructed in 1865 and served rural Logan County for more than 80 years. Union School was moved to Weldon Springs and provides guests with a hands-on learning center that includes historical exhibits, local history, and life science displays.
