Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area

Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area is located on the east shoreline of Rend Lake and offers an outlet to the lake as well as a wide variety of recreational activities. This 3,300-acre park was dedicated in 1975. The visitor center displays historical artifacts, exhibits on area wildlife, and educational material about outdoor skills and boating safety. Wayne Fitzgerrell also hosts a lakeside resort and restaurant for overnight guests. Call (618) 629-2211 for more information on the resort.

The park has nine miles of equestrian trails and four miles of hiking trails that provide guests with a great view of the lake and the surrounding area. Popular activities among park visitors include camping, fishing, hunting, picnicking, and water sports.

From Marion, take Interstate 57 north 23 miles to exit 77. Take Highway 154 west and follow the signs to Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area.

From Mt. Vernon, take Interstate 57 south 18 miles to exit 77. Take Highway 154 west and follow the signs to Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area.
