Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area

Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area was established in 1959 with a mere 20 acres of land in Marion County. In 1963 a lake was constructed that covers 585 acres and over the years the park has grown to more than 3,100 acres.

In April 2001, a marina and restaurant were opened and added to this recreation area’s list of activities. The concession offers boat rentals, supplies, bait, and snacks. Popular catches with area anglers include bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and walleye.

There are 15 miles of equestrian trails as well as equestrian campgrounds for park guests. Visitors will also find four hiking trails from which to explore the park. Other activities include boating, camping, hunting, picnicking, swimming, and water skiing.
