Spitler Woods State Natural Area

Spitler Woods State Natural Area was created in 1937 when 202 acres of land were donated to the State of Illinois by Ida Spitler. Two thirds of Spitler Woods has been designated as a State Nature Preserve and retains a variety of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.

There are two nature trails at Spitler Woods that showcase the park’s natural beauty. The park offers facilities for basketball, picnics, sand volleyball, soccer, and softball. Group camping is available by reservation only.
