South Shores State Park covers 800 acres along a 3-mile stretch of shoreline on the southeast side of Carlyle Lake. The 26,000-acre reservoir provides a wealth of bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, sunfish, and walleye for anglers. Besides fishing, visitors to South Shores State Park enjoy boating, camping, hiking, picnicking, and wildlife observation at this scenic park.

Directions:
From Mt. Vernon, take Interstate 64 east 25 miles and go north on Highway 127
for 16 miles to South Shores State Park.
From Effingham, take Interstate 57 south 41 miles to Highway 50 and go west 16 miles to South Shores State Park.
From St. Louis, take Interstate 70 east 52 miles to exit 52 and go south 11
miles to South Shores State Park.
