Sangchris Lake State Park

Sangchris Lake State Park is 5,616 acres of recreational paradise in scenic Christian County. Sangchris Lake, a 3,022-acre lake with 120 miles of majestic shoreline, was created in 1964 when Commonwealth Edison needed a cooling source for a power plant. In 1972, the lake was designated as a state fish preserve and has maintained a healthy population of bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie through the years.

Equestrian trails cover five miles of the park and there are an additional three miles of hiking trails that provide the perfect avenue to observe the park’s plant and wild life. Boating, camping, hunting, and picnicking are other popular activities at Sangchris Lake State Park.
