Sam Parr State Park was created in 1960 when the Illinois Department of Natural Resources purchased 72 acres in rural Jasper County. The park has grown to 1,180 acres and includes a 183-acre lake. The lake has a beautiful timber-trimmed shoreline and offers anglers a choice of bass, bluegill, bullhead, catfish, or crappie. There are 13 miles of equestrian trails that wind through Sam Parr State Park. Other park activities include boating, canoeing, camping, hiking, hunting, and picnicking.
