Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area is a popular recreation spot in Fayette County. This recreation area was established in 1947 and has grown over the years to encompass nearly 2,000 acres. Anglers can choose between Ramsey Lake and several small ponds from which to cast their lines and expect to catch bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, or sunfish.
There is a 13-mile equestrian trail as well as equestrian camping facilities at Ramsey Lake State Recreation Area. Picnicking, camping, hiking, boating, and hunting are other possible recreational activities. Winter activities at Ramsey Lake include ice fishing, ice skating, cross country skiing, sledding, and snowmobiling.

Directions:
From Springfield, take Highway 29 southeast 43 miles to Highway 51. Take Highway
51 south 17 miles to Ramsey and follow the signs to Ramsey Lake State Recreation
Area.
From Effingham, take Interstate 70 west 29 miles to exit 63. Go north 12 miles
on Highway 51 until you reach Ramsey and follow the signs to Ramsey Lake State
Recreation Area.
