Moraine View State Recreation Area

In 1959, the State of Illinois purchased 760 acres in McLean County and established Moraine View State Recreation Area. This park has grown to encompass 1,687 acres and offers a 158-acre lake, Dawson Lake. Anglers choose from bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, perch, pike, sunfish, and walleye. Dawson Lake also provides visitors with other water sports such as boating, sailing, and swimming.

Horseback riders will enjoy the trails at Moraine View State Recreation Area. Bring your own horses and stay overnight at the equestrian campgrounds or rent a horse at the park’s stable. Camping, hiking, hunting, and picnicking are other recreational choices. The park also comes complete with a restaurant and concession stand.
