Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center

The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Hartford is the first site on the National Lewis & Clark Heritage Trail. The center is part of a 221-acre park managed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The 14,000 square-foot facility showcases Lewis & Clark’s 1803-1806 expedition and focuses on the untold Illinois story of Louis and Clark. The Corps of Discovery, 45 men who participated in the expedition, spent 154 days at Camp Dubois preparing for their journey. The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center offers a video presentation, a full scale replica of the expedition’s 55-foot keel boat, interactive exhibits, and period artifacts. Admission to the center is free.
