Fox Ridge State Park

Located in rural Coles County, Fox Ridge State Park covers 2,064 acres and provides a recreational outlet for thousands of guests each year. Ridge Lake, the park’s 12-acre lake, was created in 1941 and serves as a Natural History Survey Lake from which research is performed. Fishing at the lake is by reservation only, but shore fishing on the Embarras River is open to all park guests.

A brisk walk up 144 stairs to the Eagle’s Nest reveals a beautiful and scenic view of the river from a deck high above. Other scenic views can be found on the eight miles of hiking trails that traverse the park. Hills, bluffs, ravines, timberland, area wildlife, and 18 wooden foot bridges are all included on the hiking trails. Another trail designed for equestrian use covers four miles of the park. Camping, hiking, hunting, picnicking, and wildlife observation are other activities that are popular with park guests.
