Carlyle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area is located on the north end of Carlyle Lake in Fayette County. It covers 9,500 acres of wetlands, woodlands, grasslands, and croplands. The croplands are used to provide wildlife with food and shelter.
Carlyle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area serves a limited function for public access and recreation. Hunting, trapping, and wildlife observations are the activities that are allowed. This wildlife area serves as a habitat management area that provides food, shelter, and nesting areas for area wildlife and migratory birds.

Directions:
From Mt. Vernon, take Interstate 64 east 25 miles and go north on Highway 127
for 16 miles to Carlyle Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area.
From Effingham, take Interstate 57 south 41 miles to Highway 50 and go west 16 miles to Carlyle Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area.
From St. Louis, take Interstate 70 east 52 miles to exit 52 and go south 11
miles to Carlyle Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area.
