Beaver Dam State Park

Beaver Dam State Park is a beautiful 750-acre park located in rural Macoupin County. The lake was actually created by a beaver and his dam hundreds of years ago. The State of Illinois purchased the land in 1947 and opened Beaver Dam State Park two years later. The park contains a variety of habitats such as woods, fields, and marshland, each containing a wealth of area wildlife.

The lake’s concession stand has boat rentals, fishing licenses, bait, supplies, and food. Bass, bluegill, catfish, sunfish, and trout are the most common catches among the lake’s anglers. There are eight miles of hiking trails at Beaver Dam State Park. Guests may also picnic, camp, or use the park’s archery range for target practice. Winter guests enjoy ice fishing, ice skating, cross country skiing, and sledding.
