Beall Woods State Park is located on the banks of the Wabash River in Wabash County. This state park has 329 acres of old growth forest, one of few remaining virgin forests on the east side of the Mississippi River. It was dedicated in 1966 as an Illinois Nature Preserve and is also registered as a National Landmark. There are more than 300 trees in the preserve that measure more than 120 feet tall with diameters close to three feet.
The park offers five hiking trails that provide an excellent view of the forest. There is also a 15-acre lake that is stocked with bass, bluegill, catfish, and trout for anglers. Other park activities include camping, picnicking, and the visitors center. Opened in 2001, Beall Woods Visitors Center is filled with historical and educational exhibits.
Beall Woods State Park is open daily from sunrise to 10:00 p.m. It is closed on Christmas and New Years Day as well as the third week of November and the first weekend in December for deer management.
