1648 Maine is a mixture of several turn of the Century revival styles. The house dates from 1921 when the Colonial revival, the Tudor revival and the Prairie School were all quite popular. The overall symmetry of the house leads one to believe that the Colonial revival is at work in this part of the design. The overall horizontality of the rooflines, especially the overhanging gables and entry overhang, lead one to believe that the Craftsman style was at play as well. However the architectural detailing lends itself to the Tudor revival.

Ernest Wood was the architect of this 1921 house and his use of varying materials, including wood and stucco give the house a definite tudor feel. The tall narrow windows in the second floor gable projections show elements of medieval windows. Although double hung, these windows were most likely casements when the house was new. This is a perfect of example of the types of houses that were created in the eclectic period of the 1920’s revival periods.
