234 is the third of a line of unique houses along South Twelfth Street built in the early 1890s. This home is an austerely decorated townhouse built of rusticated limestone. The front elevation of the house has a two story front bay that extends out of a slight projection. Roughly in the center of the front facade is an entry defined with a pediment gable decorated with a sunburst motif. Off to the side of the front entry is a small porch which runs to the end of the front facade.

The roof of the house is a shallow pitch mansard roof with two pediment dormers. Just below the dormers and above the second floor windows is an unusual cornice.

A house such as this is very similar to townhouses built in middle class suburban areas around Chicago during the post fire era. More often than not, houses such as these were closely attached and were a full floor higher. The possible design precedent for this house seems clear to be the designs of homes in larger Metropolitan areas in the Midwest of the same time period.
