1261

1261 Park Place is a very simple brick constructed Queen Anne that typifies the Midwestern house of the 1890s. The house sits under a large hip roof and has a large projecting front gable. The entry to the house sits behind this projection and assumes a non monumental role in the over all design.

The porch on the front of the house is much larger than a typical Queen Anne. Its proportion (more horizontal) coupled with its austere, abstracted ornament imply that the porch was added at a later date.

One unique feature to this house is the deep overhangs on the roof. Most Queen Anne homes have very shallow overhangs giving precedence to the Georgian origins of the Queen Anne style. However this house has flared eaves with bracketed overhangs and give the roof of this house a tent-like effect.

A horizontal belt course of rusticated limestone sits atop the second floor double hung windows and tie the projection to the main body of the house.
