1229

1229 Park Place was built in 1894 and is one of the few completely wood-built Queen Anne homes on the block. This house has a very pronounced front gable that is crossed by another gable in the rear. Coming across this vertical form on the first level is an extended front porch accommodating a large sitting space that flanks the covered entry. The porch roof is held up with Ionic columns supporting a dentiled cornice.

Simple wooden balusters serve as a railing to this porch as well. On the second floor of the front gable is a large window with narrower side lights. Later known as a "Chicago Style" window, this type of window allows large amounts of light through unobstructed glass as well as ventilation through the smaller side windows.

In the third floor gable is a small Palladian window, below a shingle relief. The gable is framed with a classical dentil cornice and ends in cornice returns.
