Recreation
Monmouth has eight city parks that provide tennis courts, playgrounds, ice
skating, golfing, trails and picnic areas. Citizen
Lake and Campground located on Highway 34 in Monmouth also
offers recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, picnicking, camping
and boating. Call (309) 734-6924 for more information.

A 15-minute drive will get you to Delabar
State Park just west of Monmouth on the Mississippi River.
Delabar has 89 acres of natural habitat that are great for observing a
variety of wildlife bird watching, hiking, camping, picnicking and river
fishing.
Just seven miles north of Delabar State Park lies Big
River State Forest. There are 2,900 acres of forest that
include the area's oldest pine plantation, Milroy Plantation, with red,
white and jack pines. The success of the Milroy Plantation initiated the
conversion to pine plantations by many area landowners. Recreation opportunities
at Big River include camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, horseback
riding, and hunting.
