History Founded in 1882, McCook is located on the north side of the Republican River in Southwest Nebraska. McCook was established when the Burlington and Quincy Railroad Company brought the railroad through this area of Nebraska. Due to the railroad, McCook experienced a rapid growth and within two years of existence there were 1,200 residents. By 1896 McCook was such a thriving commercial center that it replaced Indianola as Red Willow County seat.
