George Rogers Clark was born on November 19, 1752, in Virginia. At the young age of 26 he led a small army of men from Virginia out West where they would protect pioneer settlements on the frontier. Native Americans aligned with British troops were attacking new settlements. Clark took soldiers to protect the wilderness and eventually captured numerous British forts which helped to win the Revolutionary War. His efforts made the area, parts of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, safer to settle. Clark died February 13, 1818, at age 66.

William Henry Harrison was born in 1773 in Berkeley, Virginia. After serving seven years in the army, he was named Governor of the Indiana Territory where he served from 1800 to 1812. In November 1811 he fought in the famous battle of Tippecanoe. In the War of 1812, he was the commander of the army in the northwest. On October 5, 1813, during the Battle of Thames, Harrison defeated British and Native American forces and killed Tecumseh. After the war, Harrison returned to civilian life until 1840 when his party, the Whigs, nominated him for President. He won and became the 9th President only to die 30 days later of pneumonia.
