Snakeden
Hollow Fish & Wildlife Area was established in 1987 when the
State of Illinois acquired the 2,470 acre site from a mining company. The
area had been strip-mined for coal from 1962 through 1970. The State of
Illinois has successfully rehabilitated the area to include 400 areas of
lakes and ponds that support a healthy population of bass, walleye, trout,
muskie, crappie, catfish, and bullhead. This area also is home to an abundant
flock of Canada geese. Teal, dove, deer, and goose hunting are permitted
during specified times of the year. For general information contact the
Site Superintendent at Snakeden Hollow State Fish & Wildlife Area, 1936
State Hwy 167, Victoria, IL 61485 or phone (309) 879-2607. back
