Geode State Park is a beautiful 1,640-acre park located 20 miles northwest of Fort Madison. The park is home to Lake Geode, a 186-acre lake that offers swimming, boating, and fishing. Several hiking trails explore the park’s lakeshore and the beautiful scenery. There are nearly 200 campsites at the park for overnight guests. For more information all (319) 392-4601.

The Shimek State Forest is located in portions of Lee and Van Buren counties. The forest’s five units cover more than 9,000 acres of land. Guests can fish and boat on any of the forest’s four lakes. The forest also offers a wealth of trails for hikers and horseback riders. Equestrian campgrounds as well as regular campsites are available. Call (319) 878-3811 for more details.

Nauvoo State Park is a 148-acre park located on the south edge of Nauvoo, Illinois, next to the Mississippi River. The park’s 13-acre lake, Lake Horton, is stocked with bass, bluegill and catfish.
