History
The first settlers arrived in what is now known as DuPage County in 1830. Nine years later, in 1838, DuPage County was formed with Naperville serving as the county seat. Impressed with the area’s beauty and natural resources, settlers continued to flow in and make DuPage County their home. Wheaton eventually became the county seat and DuPage County continued to see more growth and change. Initially, the area had an agriculture-based economy, but today, DuPage County is one of the nation’s wealthiest counties with a solid commercial business-driven economy.

Although close to one million people reside in DuPage County, there is still plenty of space set aside for recreation. The DuPage County Forest Preserve District has more than 24,000 acres of preserves and more than 100 miles of trails.

Museums, shopping, art, culture, and recreation abound in DuPage County. To learn more about what DuPage County has to offer you, visit the DuPage County Convention & Visitors Bureau website or call them at (800) 232-0502.
