Sand Creek Recreational Area is a 755-acre park located on the southern edge of Decatur. Sand Creek offers 7.6 miles of equestrian trails for those who enjoy horseback riding. The trails also double as hiking trails. Whether riding or hiking, the trails offer a variety of wildlife observation. Picnicking is also available at Sand Creek. The Lincoln Trail Homestead State Memorial is located just 10 miles west of Decatur. This 162-acre memorial commemorates Lincoln’s life in Illinois.
