Recreation Kaskaskia River State Fish & Wildlife Area covers more than 20,000 acres along the Kaskaskia River. Baldwin Lake, a 2,018-acre reservoir, is also included in the wildlife area. Anglers at Baldwin Lake often catch bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. The lake also serves as a waterfowl refuge, home to a bounty of winged inhabitants. The diversity of habitats within Kaskaskia River State Fish & Wildlife Area enables a variety of wildlife to exist there. Kincaid Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area is located in the southern edge of Randolph County and included in the northern edge of the Shawnee National Forest. The 2,750-acre lake was created in 1968. Anglers flock to Kincaid Lake to take advantage of its superior fishing. Bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, Muskie, and walleye are among the popular targets. In 1958 this land was purchased by the State of Illinois and in 1961 its 65-acre lake was completed. The lake’s inhabitants include bass, catfish, trout and sunfish. Turkey Bluff State Fish & Wildlife Area is 2,265 acres of scenic woodland that overlooks the Mississippi River.
