Recreation Lily Lake was created accidentally in 1880 when a levee broke at the Mill Race and flooded a low area between Amana and Middle Amana. The 170-acre lake was used by the colonists as a source for ice. The lake derived its name from the thousands of yellow lilies that bloom on the lake during July and August. Today visitors can use the lake’s three-mile recreational path to see the lilies or view the lake’s abundant wildlife.
