Overview:
Free tutorial services to adults needing to improve basic reading, writing and/or
math skills. Also free tutorial
services to adults speaking other languages, and needing to learn how to understand,
speak, read and write English.
This is a volunteer program designed to help increase literacy throughout the
community. The program matches and
trains tutors to assist adults who have less than a ninth grade reading level.
The one-on-one tutoring for adults is free and confidential.
Offers volunteers a 12 hour tutor training workshop to adults who would like
to teach another adult to read. Quincy

Volunteers Needed: Prerequisites - High school diploma or GED certificate
and interest in tutoring; Student Eligibility:
Adults (16 years or older) residing in John Wood Community College district
whose test scores fall within state
guidelines - generally below 9th grade level; Fees: None - Free and confidential
(all materials and evaluations
are free); Limitations: None, provided that student meets state guidelines
for eligibility.
