Mission Or Objective:
Experience Works' mission is to improve the quality
of life of all Americans by using and developing the
talents and skills of older individuals through training,
employment, and community service.
Overview:
Experience Works is the nation's oldest and largest
employment and training program for older Americans.
Annually provides training, employment, and community
service opportunities to seniors. The purpose is to
empower an expanding older population by anticipating
their needs and developing programs and services to
meet them. They tutor students, teach skilled trades
and crafts, provide home health and day care, prepare
and deliver meals for homebound people, care for the
disabled, operate computers, and work as clerks, mechanics,
and manual laborers.
Participants are assigned to either work part-time
for a qualified government or nonprofit organization,
called a host agency, or to appropriate training.
While participants receive training, supervision,
and work experience directly from their host agencies,
their wages are paid by Experience Works, INC.
Participants are provided with training, work experience,
educational opportunities, counseling, and information
that will help them find and keep a job. Experience
Works' ultimate goal is to help all participants improve
their lives by obtaining employment.
This is a Title V program for people over 55 years old who are returning to the work force. The intent of the program
is to improve the social and economic condition of older Americans by promoting employment and training opportunities
for older workers, and to provide essential community services.
