Volunteer drivers assist their fellow veterans by driving them to distant hospitals for medical appointments.
Volunteers also ship unrestricted medical supplies
and return loaned equipment to the hospitals. Veterans
currently serve as volunteer drivers. They are representatives
of the DAV, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American
Legion.
Volunteers Needed: Anyone who has a good driving
record and who would get along with the veterans,
even for just one day a week; Eligibility: All
veterans must be able to enter and exit the 12-passenger
van on their own and have appointments that day. Escorts
are taken with veterans; Fees: Those who go
to Iowa City have no charge; Limitations: Cannot
transport people in wheelchairs or on stretchers.
