Reserve Center History:
The Army Reserve was in Quincy long before the building
at 36th Street was built. The property was donated
to the U. S. Government by Quincy Post No. 37, The
American Legion, in memory of our departed comrades
of the great wars. "For God and Country"
1956.
Construction began in 1957 and was completed in 1958.
The dedication was held on October 13, 1958.
The opening of the dedication program contained the
following: It is highly fitting that on the exact
100th anniversary of the historic debate between Abraham
Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas, that this building
be commemorated as a memorial to these two great men
of Illinois.
The unit at the time of dedication was the 2nd Battalion
405th Infantry Regiment. Several units have since
occupied the center.
