Mission Or Objective:
Helping older drivers improve skills and avoid traffic
crashes and violations.
Overview:
Defensive driver training course for senior citizens.
Participants must attend both sessions to receive
certification. Seniors may become eligible for a discount
on their auto insurance rates by completing the eight-hour
course which teaches older drivers how to compensate
for any physical limitations. Participants must take
the course every three years to remain eligible for
the discount.
Eight-hour classroom refresher course is for experienced
motorists age 50 and older. Classes held at various
times and locations during the year - call for information.
The course addresses the physical changes that can
affect your driving ability and behavior, including
ways to compensate for those changes.
Fifty-five years old is the average age when these
physical changes begin to impact a person's driving
ability.
The course is designed to remind you of skills and
techniques you once learned, but fail to use regularly,
and update you on the rules of the road.
Normal age-related changes that interfere with vision,
hearing, and physical strength that influence driving
ability and attitudes, as well as the impact of medications
when driving are taught in this course.
Eligibility: Class is open to anyone 50 years
of age or older; Fees: $10.00 per person; Limitations:
